Incredible visuals, so on point album titles and an absolute unique way of making music, let’s talk about Depeche Mode!

The band formed in the 1980s with Dave Gahan, Andy Fletcher, Martin Gore and Vince Clark creating a relatively unique sound that could be considered New Wave at the time. As of today the band consists of Martin Gore and Dave Gahan.

Depeche Mode are currently on tour, promoting their new album Memento Mori released in March, 2023.

It was an almost sold out show, I have never seen this many people for just one band although I’ve been to some big concerts.

The supporting band this particular night was a rising, soon to be big band called Hope. The thing with supporting bands is that many people just skip over them because speaking from experience, most of them are disappointing so people usually come just in time to catch the band or musician they paid tickets for, but with Hope I’m glad I was there in time.

Hope is a band from Berlin and even though their name may not tell you much about their vibe or sound, they’re powerful and their message is strong. This was their first night supporting Depeche Mode and it was the place to be. I highly advise you to check them out before they get big.

It is undeniable that Depeche Mode are all time icons and everyone knows who they are even if they don’t listen to the music itself. It is hard for bands like Depeche Mode to live up to what they did when they were younger, many bands disappoint their fans because they just either lost their sound or can’t recreate the energy from their prime as a band.

Whenever I go to a concert, I try to avoid reading or watching anything concert related so that my opinions are based purely on what I see and experience.

I went there expecting nothing but a great time and it’s great to say that Depeche Mode are still as great as ever. The songs almost sounded better live and they weren’t rushed nor butchered, they performed songs from their new album, songs that are viral and of course some cult classics as well. It is very relieving to be able to say that Depeche Mode are not this money hungry, ‘only doing a world tour because they want profit’, but this genuine, here for the people and the music kind of band. Although if you’re not a die hard fan of the band, I wouldn’t class this concert as a life changing experience but Depeche Mode brought us everything they had to bring: a great show.

Dave Gahan energetic as ever, dancing around in beautiful stage outfits and singing was a show on its own.

Martin Gore’s vocals were beautiful, Question of Lust was emotional as the crowd swayed along the melody with their flash on, singing with him.

I definitely got what I paid for, the band delivered everything the crowd was expecting but I was still missing the talking parts most performers do while they’re on stage: a bit of storytelling. Sure they all made sure to say hello, thank you and reminded us that they are indeed coming back next year but an artist can easily make a concert more memorable with a little chit-chat between songs.

Their new album Memento Mori carries the sounds we love in Depeche Mode, they have yet to write something bad. If you are able to go, secure your tickets because you wouldn’t want to miss seeing Depeche Mode in the flesh.
